Artist Bio
Who am I?
My name is Kira and I am a Freelance Digital Illustrator from Tennessee, US. I specialize in anime fantasy artworks, but I hope to expand my reach further!
Who is Kimaru?
Kimaru is my mascot in a sorts, but mainly just my artistic persona. She is an artemancer who weilds her pencils, pens, and paints as a source of magic. These items act as her wand so that she can create with her spells and spread the sorcery among many others.
Her face will be a familiar one over time as I use her as my face in anything digital/illustrative.
What are my goals?
- I want to share my knowledge and my journey with artists in a similar state or even just those who are interested in creating!
- I want to expand my art skillset to include more than just Fantasy Action Anime artworks. I crave to create card art.
- I want to promote a well-woven art community in which all artists can thrive in and help one another.
Inspirations
- Action anime and manga (Shonen Jump was a huge inspiration growing up)
- Magic: The Gathering card artworks, especially the Innistrad, Dominaria, and Amonkhet planes.
- Fantasy anime/manga as well as Western films (The Last Unicorn, Secret of Nimh, and even Labyrinth)
- A wide variety of artbooks, from Final Fantasy XIV to Walking Through the Landscape of Faerie by Charles Vess; from Magic: The Gathering to World of Warcraft (You get the idea, explore art physically as well as digitally)
My Journey
I mostly grew up in a small town in Virginia that didn't have much going on. My grandmother was raising me along with my eldest sister where all the inspirational material began. Given all the usual types of illustrated books you give a younger child mixed with classic Disney and Don Bluth animated movies, I was so absorbed into the possibilities of just creating. As I grew older, a few of my tastes changed. My sister was into a hip new-ish thing for our area called anime and manga, sharing some of these little morsels of visual artistry with me. I was in awe and fascinated by all the amazing styles ranging from the nostalgic styles of 90s anime up to the then-modern 2000s and beyond! There were so many that she shared with me that eventually, I was able to start sharing media with her. That's where the bug began to grow. I wanted to create my own amazing worlds and stories, just like these mangaka and animators. My small doodles of Disney lions and aliens soon began to evolve into faces. Boxy faces, but faces inspired by anime nonetheless! I looked for tutorials anywhere that I could; from a little red booklet titled How To Draw More Manga by Katy Coope all the way to copying panels from Bleach by Tite Kubo and Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto. The sources were unlimited! I eventually began to show my works to my grandmother who shared what I thought was rough criticism at that time. "You need to draw something else; people don't pay for that kind of drawing; artists don't really usually earn enough to live off of." All familiar phrases to artists at one point or another. She intended these words with a sense of protection, but I was young and took it as an attack and I was going to build my defenses.
Fast forward some, I've moved away to my original birth city due to some living situations and it's all familiar yet foreign to me. I take a deeper dive into creating art. Drawing on my schoolwork wasn't anything new to me, but now it had changed somehow and was taking over the pages where it could. Making friends was a little hard, but thank to my mother's ability to help me get a job, I slowly began to talk to people with different views from my own. This job was what led to me getting more interested in a more fantastical type of art, starting by meeting my now husband. He showed me several different mediums and games that weren't video or even board games! This strange world he opened for me brought hosts and hordes of Miniature wargames, Card games, and Tabletop Games. The artworks from these physical medias were breathtaking!
Jump to today and that love hasn't faded for the old artworks of anime that I fell in love with, the classical animation from pencil and paints, or the painterly illustrations of promotional materials of the tabletop game variety. With these passions, I want to walk forward and expand my artistic career and even help those along the way with a similar desire.

A: I intend and expect to keep an open communication channel, be it through Discord, Email, or any kind of instant messaging that I can provide images through. I'll discuss what the desired commission is, answering any questions you may have until we decide a final setup. That's when you'll provide payment as discussed, prompting me to start the sketch/thumbnailing to ensure we're headed the right direction at the very beginning! From there, we'll adjust what's needed and proceed to the cleanup phase and then to the lining process. Any time I make a major change to your commission, I'll provide a copy for you to look at to get your feedback. It will then go into coloring/painting where I will let you have a final look at it to determine if it's what you want or if anything minor needs fixing. Once we've wrapped everything up, I'll gather your file(s) together and provide you a high quality, clean image!Q: Do you offer Commercial Licensing?
A: I do, but it is subject to a contract and a commercial fee. This fee is roughly 50% of the base price.Q: Do you offer discounts for returning customers?

A: My policy is that I own the rights to the artwork itself, not the character, that is still yours all the way. This is so that I can either post or use my work to show what my commissions can be. If you're not keen on your character being posted on social media, just let me know and we can get that worked out!Q: Can I provide references of my characters?
A: Yes, of course! The more references that you provide, the better I can capture your character!Q: Can I ask for changes during your process?
A: Yes, I offer 3 changes total throughout my process.Q: Do you offer a physical option for my commission?
A: Yes, you can currently get a print. You must be comfortable providing a mailing address and the price will depend on the size/material and shipping costs. These prices can be discussed in our communications.
